What is the New York Boaters Certificate?

The NY Boater certificate shows that its holder has successfully taken an approved boating safety course and passed the corresponding exam.

Is it called a boating license, boater education card or boater education certificate?

In NY it is called the New York Boaters Certificate.

What are the benefits of taking a boater safety course?

Mandatory education the law and is required by the state. The New York Boater Certificate Program also promotes boating safety on our waterways.

When do I have to have a card by?

As of the dates below, all operators of a motorized vessels n New York State waters are required to carry a boater safety certificate: If you were born on or after (see below dates) you will need a boating safety certificate when operating a motorized vessel in: – January 1, 1988 (by 2022) – January 1, 1983 (by 2023) – January 1, 1978 (by 2024) All operators of motorized vessels, regardless of age, will need a boating safety certificate by January 1, 2025

How long is the course?

Approved online courses run a minimum of three hours to complete.

How do I replace my Boater Certificate if I’ve lost it or it was damaged?

To replace your permanent Boaters Safety Certificate please contact us to arrange for delivery of a new certificate, there will be a small fee for this service.
